Two people were injured when an SUV crashed into a viaduct Sunday morning in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 5:15 a.m. in the 4500 block of West Cermak, police said.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 29-year-old woman, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said. The 28-year-old man driving the SUV was also taken to Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

Police said alcohol may have played a role in the crash, and charges were pending against the driver Sunday morning.

CTA Route 21 buses were diverted off Cermak in the area as police investigated the crash.
