Alleged gunman held in 2011 drive-by shooting

A purported gang member was ordered held without bail Friday for a 2011 drive-by shooting that claimed the life of one man and injured two others.

Jose Perez, who prosecutors say is an admitted Satan Disciple, fired his weapon from a maroon Mitsubishi Gallant as he drove by in the 1100 block of North Ashland on Nov. 5, 2011, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Jamie Santini said.

Some of the victims were double-parked on the street while others were standing nearby talking, Santini said.

Killed in the shooting was 19-year-old Juan Sanchez, Santini said.

One man was shot in the hand and another man was shot in the chest.

An off-duty Chicago Police officer who was working security at a nearby restaurant witnessed the shooting and fired toward the fleeing Mitsubishi, striking a witness in the back, Santini said.

Four witnesses allegedly identified Perez, now 31, in a lineup.
