A 92-year-old man died late Sunday night after he was trapped in a fire in the West Town neighborhood.

Firefighters found the man in a front room of the second floor of the home in the 1900 block of West Ohio Street, said Larry Langford, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.

The man, who lived in the home, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Langford said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not confirm the fatality.

A second person was hospitalized after the blaze with minor injuries, Langford said.

A dozen people who lived in the house where the fire started and in the house next door, which also sustained damage in the blaze, were displaced, Langford said.

Langford said the cause of the fire was under investigation, and he could not say whether it appeared suspicious.
