Two people were killed and three were critically injured in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, Chicago Police said.

The silver sedan was traveling northbound in the 3800 block of South Western Avenue when the driver lost control and struck a viaduct support beam at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The driver, Claudia DeJesus, 27, of Oak Forest, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 4:22 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A passenger, Richard Rogers, 33, of the 1600 block of West Cullom Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office

Three other passengers — two 34-year-old women and a 31-year-old man — were taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit was investigating.
