A semitrailer truck driver was struck and killed by another truck while taking photos to document a minor crash with a car Thursday morning in the Noble Square neighborhood near the Kennedy Expy., fire officials said.
The driver, a man thought to be in his 30s, was taking pictures about 6:30 a.m. after a minor collision with a car in the 1300 block of West Division near the expressway, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.
As he was taking photos, he was struck by another truck, Langford said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.
The woman driving the car involved in the original minor crash was not hurt, but she was taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center for evaluation, he said. The driver of the second truck was not injured.
Illinois State Police shut down both north and southbound Division ramps as a result of the crash, police said. The ramps were not expected to reopen for the morning rush hour.
