A careening pickup truck crashed into a storefront Friday afternoon, injuring five people.
The crash happened about 2:35 p.m. near the Farmers Food Basket at 71st Street and King Drive in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
The truck hit a sedan, then crashed into the store, pinning a 61-year-old woman against the building, police and fire officials said.
Firefighters took the woman out on a backboard, Fire Media Affairs Chief Larry Langford said. She was listed in stable condition at Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center.
Two children in the sedan were hurt in the crash and taken in good condition to University of Chicago Medical Center, Langford said.
Two adults in the sedan were also injured and taken to hospitals in fair-to-serious condition, Langford said. Paramedics took the sedan’s driver to Saint Bernard Hospital, while a passenger went to University of Chicago Medical Center.
No one in the pickup was hurt, and the driver of the truck is in police custody, Langford said.
Police are investigating, and no charges or citations had been filed as of Friday afternoon, police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney said.
