No bond for driver in crash that killed passenger after police chase

A Chicago man was held without bond Sunday after prosecutors said he led police on a car chase that sent him to the hospital and killed one of his passengers.

Glenn Jones, 27, of the 200 block of East 121st Place, was charged with felony counts of reckless homicide and aggravated fleeing to elude a police officer and aggravated fleeing with bodily injury.

Jones was driving southbound in the 12100 block of South State Street around 7:15 p.m. Thursday when police noticed his car was missing its front license plate.

When officers tried to pull him over, he slowed down for a moment then sped off at more than 20 mph over the speed limit, Assistant State’s Attorney Claire Savaglio said.

Jones allegedly blew through a stop sign and red light, and then struck a car and slammed into a tree.

The collision killed Dalila Smith, 23, of Skokie, a passenger in Jones’ car. It also sent two of the passengers in the other car to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Jones was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with injuries sustained in the crash. He was not in court on Sunday, when Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered him held without bail.
