A teenage boy was ordered held in lieu of $20,000 bail Tuesday for allegedly bringing a gun into his classroom at a Far South Side alternative high school.
“I know what this is about. I got a banger on me,” David Lazard, 16, allegedly said pointing to his backpack as he was questioned by the off-duty Chicago Police officer who was working as a security officer at Olive-Harvey Middle College.
Lazard also told police Monday, “I’m into it with guys from my neighborhood,” according to a police report.
Inside the backpack, police found a Ruger 9 mm pistol with over a dozen live rounds, Cook County prosecutors said.
Lazard, of the 1500 block of East 62nd Street, was charged as adult with unlawful use of a weapon on school grounds.
Lazard was sitting in class when the security officer was notified by the school’s dean that there was a gun in the classroom, prosecutors said.
Officials with Olive-Harvey Middle College, 10001 S. Woodlawn, were unavailable for immediate comment.
