The father of a 2-year-old Lansing girl was charged with her murder, authorities said Saturday.

About 2 p.m. Wednesday, paramedics responding to a medical emergency in the 17900 block of Wildwood Avenue found Jahariah Patterson unresponsive, according to a news release from Lansing.

The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene roughly a half hour later, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy revealed that Jahariah died of multiple blunt force injuries from child abuse. Jeremiah Thompson, 21, was arrested after an investigation by Lansing police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. A village spokesman confirmed Thompson is the baby’s father.

DCFS investigated Thompson twice before in May 2013 and July 2013, DCFS spokeswoman Karen Hawkins said. Allegations in May were “unfounded,” but the July investigation indicated abuse, Hawkins said.
