Crews used a helicopter Saturday to scare a dog into coming inland off the ice of Lake Michigan.
Responding to a call around 7:30 a.m. of a dog on the ice off the lake near North Avenue, Chicago firefighters spotted the pooch about 100 yards offshore.
Using a helicopter, they were able to spook the dog and drive it back to land.
But the dog took off, eluding firefighters’ attempts to corral it for about an hour, racing north about a mile, up to Fullerton Avenue, and running back onto the ice several times, fire department spokesman Juan Hernandez said.
