Eight children and one adult were taken to hospitals after a four-vehicle crash on the Dan Ryan Expy. Wednesday morning on the South Side.
The driver of a 2007 Infinity M35 lost control in the southbound lanes of the Dan Ryan at 51st a few minutes before 7 a.m. and struck a day care van, according to Illinois State Police. A Megabus then struck the van and a 2008 Honda Accord.
The driver of the van was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
The eight children in the van were hospitalized as a precaution, but none were injured, police said.
Fire Media Affairs spokesman Juan Hernandez said three children were taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, three to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, and two to Comer Children’s Hospital.
Twenty-eight people refused medical attention on the scene, Hernandez said.
The ramp at 51st was reopened as of 8 a.m., according to Fire Media.
The driver of the Infinity was charged with driving too fast for conditions, police said.
