Federal offices in Washington D.C. closed Monday due to winter storm

Updated: March 3, 2014 1:33AM

WASHINGTON — The U.S. federal government says its offices in the Washington area will be closed Monday due to the winter storm moving into the Mid-Atlantic states.

The Office of Personnel Management says non-emergency personnel in and around Washington are granted excused absences for the day. Emergency employees and telework-ready employees are expected to follow agency policies.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the Washington area from midnight (0500 GMT) through 6 p.m. (2300 GMT) Monday. The National Weather Service is predicting up to 10 inches (25 centimeters) of snow is possible.

The federal government’s closure will keep tens of thousands of commuters off the roads and rails.
