A 20-month-old boy was at Comer Children’s Hospital Friday, critically injured with burns to his head, face and chest.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the case, said agency spokeswoman Veronica Resa.

The injuries occurred about 7:45 p.m. Thursday in an apartment at East 69th Street and South Cornell Avenue, Chicago Police said.

The boy was taken to Comer Children’s, where he was listed in critical condition, police said, offering few details about the case.

It was not immediately known how the child was burned. Police were questioning several people who were in the building at the time of the incident.
