Carlos Boozer set to return vs. Nets

Carlos Boozer, who has missed the Bulls’ last three games with a strained left calf muscle, looks set to return at the United Center tonight vs. Brooklyn.

``He went through the shootaround. We’ll see where he is tonight,’’ coach Tom Thibodeau said Thursday morning. ``He did fine, but we’ll see. As long as there’s not any repercussions. [This is] the first time he did anything for a long time.’’

If he’s ready, Boozer will start, Thibs has said.

Even though Taj Gibson has stepped up offensively, averaging 26 points in the Bulls’ last three games, Thibodeau figures to continue their pattern of sharing playing time.

``For us to achieve what we want to achieve, we need Carlos,’’ Thibs said Wednesday.

``Taj is killing,’’ Joakim Noah said. ``It’s really good for our team. He’s one of the leaders of this team. He brings it every night. He’s getting a lot better too, a lot more comfortable on the block. When you see a guy working on his game like that every day, it just makes everybody work harder.’’

The Bulls will be trying to add their fourth victory in five games against Brooklyn tonight. That would be an encouraging way to head into this weekend’s All-Star break, particularly against the hot Nets, who have won four of their last five.

``I think we can be even better as a team. That’s exciting,’’ Noah said of a Bulls team that has weathered the loss of Derrick Rose and Luol Deng. ``[With] Booz coming back hopefully tonight. . . if everybody just keeps grinding, it’ll be a fun playoffs.’’
