A man died early Sunday after he was struck by an SUV in west suburban Aurora, police said.
The unidentified man, thought to be in his 30s or 40s, was walking southbound on Broadway Avenue, near Spring Street, where he was struck by a 2006 Mitsubishi SUV, also southbound, shortly before 4 a.m., according to a news release issued by the Aurora Police Department.
The SUV’s driver, 39-year-old Cherise Wardlow, of Montgomery, stayed at the scene, police said. She told officers that she was driving in the area and heard “a loud thump” from the front of the vehicle.
When she stopped and discovered she had struck the man, Wardlow called police, according to police. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kane County Coroner’s office, which will conduct an autopsy, could not be immediately reached for comment.
Wardlow was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said. There were no signs of alcohol or drugs at the scene.
Aurora police are investigating, and ask anyone who witnessed the crash to call investigators at (630) 256-5330.
