Piling on to Metra’s problems because of the cold weather, a freight train derailment has halted service on North Central Service until further notice.
A CN freight train derailment Tuesday morning caused Metra to suspend all North Central Service trains, according to a service alert posted to Metra’s website about 3:30 a.m. The North Central Service operates between Chicago and north suburban Antioch.
The train is stopped near Mundelein, said CN spokesman Patrick Waldron. He said crews are working to move the train.
Commuters are encouraged to use the Milwaukee District North Line, which runs from Chicago to Fox Lake and is operating normally, or find alternate modes of transportation, said Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.
