Icy roads had a role in a crash early Saturday on Interstate 55 that claimed the life of a 63-year-old Joliet woman, according to the Illinois State Police.
Deborah L. Huffar was northbound near West Frontage Road between Oak Tree Lane and Benet Lane around 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
The driver of a southbound Chevrolet Cruz braked to avoid a Pontiac Vibe pulling out of a Will County forest preserve onto Frontage Road, lost control on the icy road and slid into the northbound lane, hitting Huffar’s four-door Saturn head-on, the police said.
Huffar was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Bartley Perry, 53, of Joliet, the driver of the Pontiac Vibe, was cited for failing to yield to another motor vehicle.
