As a former player and coach and now a media member, give us your thoughts on the Richard Sherman interview.
I totally disagree with what he did. I know it was the heat of the game, and he said some things he probably should not have. As a coach, you have to tell him, ‘‘No more of that stuff.’’ You have to try and rein them in. Players have to respect the game, and it’ll respect you. If you don’t, you’re going to have problems.
I do like the fact that he apologized. He’s an intelligent kid, and he knew what he was doing. The kid plays with a chip on his shoulder, but at some point that gets old.
But didn’t your ’85 Bears do some talking?
Whoa! We played the game hard. We didn’t have guys up in your face saying stuff. We intimidated by the way we played the game. We had a lot of good football players who played the game hard and let that do their talking.
Jim McMahon didn’t say a few things?
Well, Jim was a little different bird.
The Bears seemingly are moving from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 scheme. How difficult will that transformation be?
Not difficult at all. It’s all based on your personnel. If you don’t have the right personnel to play a 4-3, you switch it. If you have guys you would rather have standing up, then you go with the 3-4. It’s really not that big of an adjustment because the 3-4 is just a derivative of the 4-3.
Are you a fan of the Pro Bowl?
It’s a nice honor for the players, but you can’t go down there and treat the game like a vacation or the fans get cheated. What it has become now is not good. The NFL needs to change it.
