One man is dead and at least five people were wounded in shootings — two of which occurred during robberies — across Chicago on Wednesday.
A 19-year-old man died Wednesday evening after suffering a gunshot wound to the back in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
Joseph Brittman was shot about 3:05 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Campbell Avenue, police said.
Brittman, of the 6600 block of South Bell Avenue, was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 5:24 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
Additional details on the shooting were not immediately available Thursday morning, police said.
The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred during an apparent robbery about 8:10 p.m. in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood.
An 18-year-old man was shot in the leg about 8:10 p.m. in the 3800 block of West Chicago Avenue, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in “stable” condition.
A description of the suspect was not available early Thursday, police said. It was not immediately clear what, if anything, was stolen.
Less than 90 minutes earlier, a 56-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the head in the South Shore neighborhood, police said. He was shot about 7 p.m. in the 1700 block of 72nd Street, and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
About 3:37 p.m., two people were injured in a possible drive-by shooting in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.
A 29-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were shot near the intersection of 67th Street and South Langley Avenue, police said. Details were still sparse Wednesday evening, but police said the shooting might have been a drive-by.
The man was shot in his back and transported to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. His condition was still unknown Wednesday evening.
The woman, who suffered a gunshot wound to her left arm, was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center in “stable” condition.
Earlier in the afternoon, a Comcast employee was shot and critically wounded during a robbery in the South Shore neighborhood.
The 45-year-old man was shot a few minutes before 1 p.m. while he was sitting in his vehicle in an alley in the 7600 block of South Kingston Avenue, police said. The Comcast worker was approached by an armed man who stole his wallet, then shot him in the abdomen before running away.
The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.
A spokesperson for Comcast confirmed the victim was a Comcast employee.
“This is shocking news, and our thoughts and prayers go out to our employee and his loved ones,” a statement from Comcast spokesperson Angelynne Amores said.
“We will continue working with law enforcement as they investigate,” Amores said.
No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
