One man is dead and at least eight other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening.

A 23-year-old man was shot and killed early Saturday in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side.

The man was walking on the sidewalk about 4:10 a.m. in the 4500 block of South Indiana Avenue when two males exited from a dark-colored sedan and shot at him, police said.

The man ran to a nearby vacant lot where he collapsed, police said. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

The man, who had not yet been identified, was pronounced at the scene at 4:55 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred early Saturday in the West Englewood neighborhood.

A 23-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk about 4:30 a.m. in the 5700 block of South Laflin Street when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was taken in serious condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

About an hour earlier in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, a man, 20, was shot in the groin area while he was urinating in a gangway about 3:20 a.m. in the 6400 block of South Homan Avenue, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

At 2:50 a.m., a 25-year-old man was injured in a Brighton Park neighborhood shooting in the 4200 block of South Western Avenue, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in “stable” condition.

In the South Lawndale neighborhood, a woman, 23, was in a car about 1:10 a.m. in the 3100 block of South California Avenue, when an unknown vehicle pulled up alongside her and someone inside fired shots, police said. She walked into Saint Anthony Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm and was listed in good condition.

Early Friday evening, an elderly man was shot during a robbery in the Gold Coast, less than a block away from the home of Chicago Archbishop Francis George.

The 70-year-old man was approached by an unknown male suspect and robbed of his cell phone about 7:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Astor Street, police said. He was shot in the foot and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in “stable” condition.

A few minutes earlier, a woman was shot while riding in a car in the Uptown neighborhood.

The 25-year-old woman was a passenger in a vehicle in the 1000 block of West Wilson Avenue when someone in another vehicle opened fire, police said. She suffered a graze wound to the face and was taken in good condition to Weiss Memorial Hospital.

Police said the shooting is thought to be gang-related.

The first shooting of the weekend occurred about 7 p.m. in the South Shore neighborhood.

A 25-year-old woman and a man, 23, got in to a physical fight with another male about 7 p.m. when he shot the other two in the 2600 block of East 76th Street, police said. The woman was hit in her left arm, and the man was struck in his right arm.

The shooter then started beating the man with an object that a second, female suspect handed to him, police said.

The woman was taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, while the man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said. Both were listed in “stable” condition.

The male and female suspects, whose ages were not immediately known, were taken in to custody, police said. Charges are pending against them.

Area detectives are investigating each of the shootings.
