Five men are dead and at least four other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago Thursday.
A 33-year-old man was shot to death Thursday evening in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
Barnett Adams, of the 600 block of North Waller Avenue, was shot about 5:10 p.m. in the 5600 block of West Chicago Avenue while arguing with another man in the street, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
During the argument, the suspect took out a gun and shot him in the shoulder and leg, then fled, police said.
Adams was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 6:03 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.
A few hours earlier, a 19-year-old man was killed in a Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood shooting on the South Side.
Andre Hunter, of the 7900 block of South Princeton Avenue, was found dead on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to the body about 2:40 p.m. in the 7700 block of South Stewart Avenue, authorities said.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 3:34 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.
About 5:20 a.m., a Chicago blues guitarist was shot to death in the South Shore neighborhood.
Officers found 41-year-old Eric Davis shot multiple times inside a vehicle in the 6700 block of South East End Avenue, authorities said.
Davis, of the 14200 block of South Eggleston Avenue in Riverdale, was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said.
Chicago blues legend Linsey Alexander said Eric “Guitar” Davis was hanging out at the North Side blues bar Kingston Mines Wednesday night, Homicide Watch Chicago is reporting. Nobody answered the phone at the club Thursday afternoon.
Less than 30 minutes earlier, Willie Cooper, 74, was found in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds to the body about 4:45 a.m. in the 7000 block of South East End Avenue, authorities said.
Cooper, of the of 6800 block of South Crandon Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:08 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said.
About 2:50 a.m. Thursday, a man died after being shot multiple times in the Gage Park neighborhood on the South Side.
Salvador Diaz, 27, had just exited a vehicle in the 5300 block of South Talman Avenue when a gunman approached on foot and fired at him, authorities said.
He ran from the scene but collapsed in a nearby alley, where police found him, police said.
Diaz, of the 500 block of South Spaulding Avenue, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 3:56 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said.
A 37-year-old suspect was taken into custody about 4 a.m. in connection with the shooting, police said. Charges are pending Thursday afternoon.
The shooting may have been gang-related, police said.
The most recent non-fatal occurred Thursday night on the Near West Side.
A man, thought to be in his 30s, was shot about 8:30 p.m. in the 300 block of South Western Avenue, police said. He suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and buttocks and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in good condition.
About an hour earlier, a 30-year-old woman was injured in a Woodlawn neighborhood shooting on the South Side.
A 30-year-old woman and 31-year-old man were both shot about 7:25 p.m. in the 6100 block of South Eberhart Avenue, police said.
The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and the man was shot in the stomach, police said. They were both taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where they were listed in “stable” condition.
Earlier in the afternoon, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the South Shore neighborhood.
The shooting happened about 2:15 p.m. in the 7300 block of South South Shore Drive, police said. The boy was shot in the shoulder and taken in “stable” condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Area detectives are investigating the shootings.
