Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is getting a divorce.
“It is with a heavy heart that today, after much thought and consideration, I am announcing that my husband and I have decided to divorce after 44 years of marriage,” Preckwinkle said in a written statement Saturday.
Preckwinkle is married to Zeus Preckwinkle, a retired teacher. They have two children.
“This is a mutual decision,” the Cook County Board president said. “There will be no further comment on this matter.”
Preckwinkle is running for a second term next year and so far faces no challengers.
