Saturday would be a bad day to leave your warm hat at home because it’s so-o-o winter of 2012.

It’s going to get really cold — not so cold that it turns spit to ice before it hits the ground, but very cold nonetheless. And it’s likely to stay that way at least through Thursday.

With the wind chill factor, it may feel like it’s only 1 degree Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Lake-effect snow accumulations of one to three inches are possible in northern Cook County and Lake County by Sunday morning, according to the weather service.

A separate snow system could hit the area late Sunday and make a mess of the Monday morning commute, with accumulations up to three inches north of Interstate 88.

Expect highs in the low to mid-20s through most of the week.
