The Chicago Sun-Times unit of the Chicago Newspaper Guild voted 34-10 on Monday night to approve a new three-year contract with the Sun-Times Media Group, publisher of the Sun-Times.
Terms of the deal include new economic and non-economic benefits for the nearly 130 Guild members — employees across all of the company’s newspapers. Some units will vote Tuesday. The deal was reached after 15 months of negotiations between company management and the Guild’s bargaining unit.
The Northwest Indiana Post-Tribune unit voted 11-1 in favor of the deal.
The new contracts would cover members of the Guild at the Sun-Times, the Post-Tribune, Pioneer Press newspapers, the Herald-News in Joliet, and Lake County News-Sun. Pioneer Press, the Herald-News and the News-Sun had votes scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
