Updated: January 3, 2014 6:18AM

One person died Sunday morning after a wrong-way driver collided with another vehicle in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 near Southwest Suburban Darien, state police said.

The crash happened about 5:30 a.m. on southbound I-55 at Lemont Road, said Illinois State Police Sgt. Bruce Orns.

One person, whose name and other details were not available, was pronounced dead at the scene, Orns said. It was not immediately known if there were any other injuries.

As of 9:15 a.m., all southbound lanes of I-55 were reopened from Lemont Road to the Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) interchange, Orns said. Lanes were shut down earlier because of the crash.

A representative from the Darien-Woodridge Fire District, which also responded to the crash, referred all questions to state police.
