A 51-year-old Chicago man is facing felony public indecency charges after allegedly exposing and fondling himself as he drove next to a bus full of students on the Eisenhower Expy.
Cook County Judge James Brown set Eugene Himelstein’s bail at $75,000 Sunday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on the Southwest Side. He barred Himelstein from having any contact with children and ordered him wear an electronic monitor if he posted bail.
Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jacqueline Kwilos said Himelstein, of the 4700 block of South Racine, was taken into custody at his home by police on Saturday.
Himselstein was shirtless and driving a gold conversion van when he pulled alongside the school bus about 7:30 a.m. Sept. 10 on the Eisenhower, near Damen Avenue, Kwilos said. A 16-year-old girl riding the bus, who later gave police the van’s license plate number, said Himelstein appeared to be looking at the bus and smiling while masturbating, authorities said. The bus was headed to a school on Chicago’s West Side.
Kwilos said Himelstein, a warehouse worker, has two prior convictions for public indecency from 1983 and 1988.
