Gov. Pat Quinn plans to pull desk duty when he signs same-sex marriage legislation Wednesday.

And what a desk it is!

Sneed is told Quinn will ink the historic bill on the desk used by Abraham Lincoln to pen his first inaugural address.

◆ Pssst! Sneed hears the desk will be quietly shipped Wednesday morning from Springfield to Quinn’s office in Chicago.

◆ Long shot: “Abraham Lincoln sat at that same desk to quill his first inaugural address, given on March 4, 1861, which sought to bring the nation together as one,” said a Sneed source.

◆ Earshot: “In it, Lincoln called on all Americans to listen to ‘the better angels of our nature,’ ” the source added.

◆ Backshot: The desk, which first belonged to Lincoln’s brother-in-law, Clark Moulton Smith, was retrieved from the historic Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices in Springfield.

Obama no drama . . .

Well, dang. First friend/senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, who has the president’s ear, apparently isn’t in that much trouble with her boss over the Obamacare rollout debacle.

◆ To wit: President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama went to her 57th birthday party Friday night at the organic Restaurant Nora in Washington, D.C., and it was cheery . . . rather than dreary.

Bang. Bang.

The sin of omission? Sneed has learned there was something missing from a press release issued by Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart’s office last week.

◆ To wit: Sneed is told the unnamed sheriff’s deputy who shot himself in the foot near his desk outside Dart’s office last Thursday was — egads! — head of security for the sheriff’s administration building, according to a Sneed source.

◆ Buckshot: Sneed is told Security Specialist/front-door manager Delaney Rivers, who had just gotten a promotion, was cleaning his handgun when the weapon discharged.

◆ Slapshot: Rivers is now “under automatic suspension pending review of an accidental discharge of a weapon,” according to the source.

Ouch!

Bench press mess . . .

Go figure!

Sneed is told that the two people who should be most concerned about Cook County’s horrific case backlog — which costs taxpayers $80 million a year — skipped out on a meeting last week of Cook County justice system power brokers convened by the Illinois Supreme Court.

◆ The delinquent duo: Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez and Cook County Public Defender A.C. Cunningham both cited scheduling conflicts.

◆ Who did go? The entire Illinois Supreme Court, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, Cook County Circuit Court Chief Judge Tim Evans.

The Greene machine . . .

Hahahaha: Long-retired comedian Shecky Greene, 87, once the king of Borscht Belt Jewish humor, stunned the Skokie breakfast crowd at the popular Jack’s Restaurant on Monday morning, when he unexpectedly slid into his schmendrick — joker — role after finishing his meal. “He put a show on for us and did a routine for everyone there,” said restaurant owner Jack Koretos. Wow.

Top tip . . .

Sneed is told uber-film impresario Steven Spielberg, who directed the hit film “Lincoln,” featuring Academy Award-winning star Daniel Day-Lewis, has just accepted an invitation to receive the 2014 Lincoln Leadership Prize from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation on March 19.

I spy . . .

Oh oh Oprah hosted a lunch for her best advertisers at Chicago Cut last Monday and posed for photos with anyone who asked. . . . Mesirow’s Les Coney was spotted sitting courtside at the Bulls game Monday night with new WFLD-Channel 32 evening anchor Dawn Hasbrouck, who is replacing Robin Robinson in the anchor’s chair.

Sneedlings . . .

Condolences to Mary Alice Houlihan on the loss of her beloved husband, former Illinois State Rep. Dan Houlihan, who died following a battle with Parkinson’s disease last week. A loving couple who grew an amazing family. So very sad. Blessings, Mary Alice. . . . Wednesday’s birthdays: Joe Biden, 71; Bo Derek, 57, and Joel McHale, 42 . . . and happy belated to Beth Heller, 38.
