Girl, 10, badly hurt in 40-foot fall at downtown Sears store

A 10-year-old girl was in critical condition Saturday after falling 40 feet after going over a railing Friday afternoon inside a Sears department store at 2 N. State St. in the Loop, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
It happened around 3:30 p.m. Friday, according to the fire department, which said the girl sustained traumatic injuries and was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in critical condition.“Our thoughts and prayers are with the young girl and her family,” Sears spokesman Howard Riefs said Saturday, “and we are fully cooperating with the authorities in investigating the matter.”
