One person was critically injured Wednesday afternoon in an extra-alarm blaze in an apartment building in the West Ridge neighborhood on the North Side.
The fire started about 5 p.m. Wednesday when a flooring company worker was applying finishing to the floors in a 3 1/2-story building in the 2100 block of West Lunt, the fire department said. The fire, which was elevated to a two-alarm blaze, was controlled about an hour after it started.
The worker was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition with burns to the leg.
Lunt Avenue buses was rerouted in the area because of the fire department activity, the CTA said.
