A man who was rescued from Lake Michigan after jumping off Navy Pier Tuesday evening has died, authorities said

Police Marine Unit officers called to the pier about 8:46 p.m. found that 84-year-old David Peck had jumped into the water, possibly attempting to commit suicide, authorities said.

The fire department said Peck was in serious condition after he was retrieved from the water.

Peck, of the 4300 block of North Menard Avenue, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he died a short while later, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

A missing person report had been filed for Peck earlier in the day, authorities said.
