Drive-by shooting brings weekend shooting toll to 3 dead, 14 wounded across Chicago

A man was killed Saturday afternoon and two others were wounded in a drive-by shooting Saturday afternoon in South Chicago, bringing the city’s shooting toll since Friday evening to three dead and 14 wounded.

The drive-by shooting occurred at 4:30 p.m. in the 8600 block of South Kingston Avenue, Officer Daniel O’Brien said.

A 21-year-old man whose name hasn’t been released was dead at the scene.

The wounded were a 29-year-old man who was shot in the chest and a 26-year-old man who was shot in one of his wrists, according to O’Brien, who said the three men have been linked to street gangs.

The wounded men were taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

In the earlier fatal shootings:

◆ Four people were sitting on a porch shortly before 8 p.m. Friday in the 2900 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue in Belmont Cragin on the city’s Northwest Side when an unknown male approached and opened fire, police said. A 21-year-old man, Renee Soto, died a short time later at Stroger Hospital from multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.

Other injuries sustained in the shooting included a 17-year-old girl who was shot in the side of the head, a 30-year-old man shot in the back and a 28-year-old man shot in the arm and side, police said. All were in “stable” condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said

◆ About 20 minutes later, Uriel Guadarramo, 36, was killed and another man critically wounded in a shooting in the 2800 block of North Spaulding Avenue in Logan Square. One victim was shot in the chest and taken in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, authorities said. The other man was shot in the back of the head and the leg and also taken to a hospital. According to police, an unknown male suspect emerged from two parked cars on Spaulding and opened fire on the two.
