The thief picked an easy mark.
A woman leaning on crutches and glancing at her cell phone as she tried to hail a taxi in the Loop Tuesday evening.
He shoved her to the ground and nabbed her phone before taking flight down the 100 block of North State Street.
But he didn’t get far.
Two Chicago police officers on bicycles were patrolling the 5 p.m. rush hour crowds nearby. A witness flagged them down and the chase was on — though it was brief.
“It only lasted a block or two,” said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.
Clayton Jones, 23, of the 7200 block of South Luella, was arrested and charged with felony robbery, Gaines said. Jones was expected in bond court Wednesday.
The 39-year-old woman who was robbed identified Jones, said Gaines. Police also found the stolen cellphone on Jones, he said.
The victim declined medical attention, preferring to visit her personal physician instead.
