The White Sox evened their series with the Seattle Mariners on Saturday with a 4-3 victory, thanks to another big assist from the bullpen.

Starter Dylan Axelrod went 5 2/3 inning for the Sox and held the Mariners to three hits and one unearned run. But the victory went to lefty reliever Donnie Veal, one of five Sox relievers.

Mariners ace Felix Hernandez (1-1) suffered his first loss after allowing all four runs in 6 1/3 innings, including a two-run homer in the sixth by Alex Rios, his second in as many games.

Addison Reed earned his third save.

The Sox committed their sixth error when Jeff Keppinger couldn’t handle a ground ball toward first by Dustin Ackley in the second. It led to the unearned run off Axelrod.

But Conor Gillaspie, who started at third, had a triple, a single, two runs and a flashy inning-ending double play in the fifth.
