The real Spider-man catches thieves just like flies.
Police are looking to snare a fake one, who, wearing just the superhero’s mask, held up a 7-Eleven store in the city’s Montclare neighborhood early Tuesday.
“It was a scary moment, not knowing if he was going to pull the trigger after he gets the money,” the store’s clerk, who didn’t want her name used, told the Chicago Sun-Times later Tuesday.
The robbery occurred about 5 a.m., police said. The clerk said she was alone in the store, in the 2700 block of North Harlem, when she saw the man in the mask. He tapped his gun on the counter near the register to get her attention, but didn’t at first say anything.
“He just gave me hand signals,” the clerk said. “He wouldn’t talk.”
But when she tried to comply and the register temporarily froze, the impatient robber said: “Hurry up. Put the money in the bag. He threw a (Walgreens plastic) bag at me, and he put the money in the bag, and left.”
The clerk said it was the first time she’s been robbed.
No injuries were reported and no one was in custody Tuesday, said police, who continue to investigate.
