Wet, warmer Sunday; snow showers expected Monday

Updated: February 10, 2013 12:52PM

With temperatures expected to rise into the 40s on an otherwise gloomy and overcast Sunday, this past week’s ice storm could be nothing more than a slushy memory by day’s end. But wind gusts will pick up in the evening, giving way to snow showers and gusty winds on Monday in the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service.

While Monday’s conditions may be unpleasant for awhile, the weather service is not reporting that the snow was expected to accumulate.

High temperatures on Sunday were expected to get into the mid-40s, accompanied by wind and rain, the weather service said.

By tonight, temperatures will dip a little, and the winds will pick up. Low temperatures in the lower 3Os were expected to be joined by wind gusts of up to 40 mph in the early evening, according to the weather service.

Monday was expected to be windy and cloudy, with a 30 percent chance of snow showers and highs in the mid-30s. Monday night was also expected to be blustery, with a chance of flurries.

No snow or rain was forecast for Tuesday, and by Wednesday temps could reach into the lower 40s, according to the weather service.
