Three Schaumburg Police detectives were arrested in DuPage County on charges they stole cash and illegal drugs from dealers, sources said Wednesday.
The arrests stemmed from a drug investigation started by DuPage County authorities, sources said. The DEA became involved after investigators uncovered the alleged actions of the Schaumburg officers, sources said. DEA officers removed records from the Schaumburg Police Department Wednesday as part of their investigation, sources familiar with the investigation said.
Some of the alleged misconduct involving the officers was secretly captured by audio and video recordings, the sources said.
Schaumburg Police said the officers were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office. The village also has begun its own investigation.
The identities of the officers weren’t released. They are scheduled to appear Thursday in DuPage County bond court.
Schaumburg Police said they were cooperating with the state’s attorney’s office. A spokesman for State’s Attorney Robert Berlin declined to comment.
