Man killed, 5 others injured in gun violence

A man was killed and five people were wounded in shootings on the South and West sides since Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The most recent shooting happened about midnight Thursday in the 100 block of South Springfield in the Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. A 23-year-old man was found in an alley with seven gunshot wounds, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. His name was being withheld early Thursday as authorities notify his family.

About 11:40 p.m., two 30-year-old men were shot in the 8000 block of South Union, police said. One man was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. The other man was shot in a testicle and was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, police said.

Earlier Wednesday, a 31-year-old man was shot at Morgan and 58th Street about 4:40 p.m., police said. He suffered a graze wound and was taken to Stroger Hospital, police said.

About 3:45 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was critically wounded in a shooting in the 7100 block of South Rockwell in Chicago Lawn, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

About 2:57 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in the 2500 block of West Lithuanian Plaza Court in the Englewood neighborhood, police said. He was shot in the chin and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Police have made no arrests in any of the shootings as detectives investigate.
