She remembered the drugs, but not the child. Police say when a South Side who left her 3-year-old granddaughter on a CTA bus in the South Loop was arrested Wednesday night, they found heroin in her pocket.

Elaine Overton, 48, as been charged with a misdemeanor count of endangering the life of a child and a felony count of possession of a controlled substance, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

Central District officers were called to a CTA bus shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when a passenger noticed the sleeping 3-year-old girl riding the bus in the 900 block of South State Street without any adult supervision, police said.

Officers were able to locate the toddler’s mother and determine the location of her grandmother, who was taken into custody. At the time of her arrest, Overton, of the 3600 block of South Rhodes Avenue, was in possession of heroin, police said.

She was expected to appear in court Friday.
