Chicago offers free Christmas tree recycling

Updated: February 6, 2013 6:08AM

Beginning Saturday, Chicago residents can bring their Christmas trees — real ones — to 23 locations to be chipped and turned into mulch.

Streets and Sanitation and Chicago Park District forestry crews will accept trees through Jan. 18.

The mulch will be available for free to residents on a limited basis at the tree-recycling locations beginning Jan. 11, according to the Park District.

Before dropping off your tree, remove all ornaments, lights and stands first as sites are not able to accept other materials, such as decorations, wreaths, garland or household recyclables.
