11,000 ComEd customers without power Friday after winter storm

About 11,000 Commonwealth Edison customers are still without power Friday morning and a “vast majority” might not see service restored until Saturday, according to a spokeswoman.
“We’re working as quickly as we can,” said ComEd spokeswoman Arlana Johnson, adding that about 600 crews would be out working throughout the day.
On Thursday, a winter storm with gusts up to 50 miles-per-hour knocked out power and caused airlines to cancel more than 500 flights at O’Hare and Midway airports.
A majority of Friday’s outages—about 8,600—were recorded in the western suburbs hit hardest by the storm, Johnson said. Those suburbs include Rockford and the Quad Cities.
About 300 customers in Chicago were experiencing power outages Friday morning, Johnson said.
