Quarterback

C- Jay Cutler made just enough mistakes and had just enough bad luck to lose. He was
22-for-44 for 260 yards, one TD and two INTs for a 57.0 rating. Jason Campbell threw a too-late TD to Brandon Marshall.

RUNNING BACKS

B Matt Forte broke out with 85 yards on 13 carries, but most of his damage was done when the Bears were down by two TDs. Forte also had six catches for 34 yards.

RECEIVERS

C+ The Bears continue to waste the greatest season one of their receivers has had. Marshall was magnificent (10 catches, 160 yards, TD), but even he had a key drop at the wrong time.

offensive line

C Effort is laudable, but it’s getting a little too late to be a work-in-progress. Gave Cutler enough time on several occasions, but those breakdowns are more lethal than they should be.

defensive line

B Recovered from a tough start to gain control and give the offense a chance to steal it. Playing short-handed, the Bears needed more from Julius Peppers.

LINEBACKERS

B Lance Briggs (11 tackles, one tackle for loss) and Nick Roach (nine tackles, two TFLs) picked it up with Brian Urlacher out. But one mistake was costly, and they were unable to make a big-enough play.

defensive backs

B It wasn’t exactly the highest degree of difficulty going against Christian Ponder without Percy Harvin, but it was good enough. Major Wright had an interception and broke up a pass.

SPECIAL TEAMS

B- Devin Hester was better on punt returns (11.8-yard avg.), but it seemed the opportunity was there for more. Adam Podlesh handled kickoff duties adroitly. The coverage teams were excellent.

Coaching

C At this point, it’s all about being prepared to overcome injuries and take advantage of a weaker opponent. The Bears came up short again.
