A switching problem on the Loop elevated tracks is causing suspended service and “major delays” on numerous CTA lines.
The switching problem was reported about 5 p.m. at the Van Buren / Wabash junction, according to the CTA. The problem affects Brown, Green, Orange, Purple and Pink Line trains.
As a result, Purple Line service was suspended between Belmont and the Loop, the CTA said. Passengers should take the Brown or Red Line to the Belmont station and transfer to the Purple Line.
Additionally, some Pink Line trains will only operate between the 54th Street / Cermak and Clinton stations, the CTA said. Pink Line trains that enter the Loop will be rerouted to the outer (Brown Line) tracks and the first stop will be at Washington / Wells, the CTA said.
The CTA is reporting “major delays” and advising passengers to allow extra travel time.
