It’s said he prefers to use a pen over a keyboard, but in an effort to reach more of the masses, Pope Benedict XVI will begin sending Twitter messages later this month.
“We are going to get a spiritual message,” Greg Burke, senior media advisor to the Vatican, told the BBC. “The Pope is not going to be walking around with a Blackberry or an iPad, and no one is going to be putting words into the Pope’s mouth.”
Burke added, “He will tweet what he wants to tweet.”
The Pope’s first Twitter session is planned for Dec. 12, a question-and-answer format, the BBC reports. The tweets will be translated into eight languages.

Cardinal Francis George has no plans to start tweeting, a spokeswoman said Monday.
