Three men shot, one fatally in Uptown neighborhood

One man was fatally shot and two others were wounded Friday night in the Uptown neighborhood on the North Side, authorities said.

The men were standing on the sidewalk in the 5000 block of North Winthrop Avenue about 9:30 p.m. when two male suspects walked up and started shooting, police said.

A 46-year-old man was shot in the thigh, abdomen and buttocks, and later died at the hospital, police said.

A 32-year-old man was shot in the knee and ankle, police said. The third man, 29, was shot in the knee, abdomen and shoulder.

No one is in custody for the shooting as Area North detectives continue their investigation. A motive for the slaying was not yet known.
