An American Airlines flight attendant allegedly caught by O’Hare Airport security with a small handgun said her husband forgot to take it out of her carry on bag after a recent trip to Michigan.
Prosecutors on Saturday said 65-year-old Sheila Schultz, of Palatine, arrived at the airport on Friday morning to leave for a 10:30 a.m. flight to Shanghai, China.
But a TSA agent at a security checkpoint noticed the image of a firearm on the X-ray machine. She called her supervisor and opened the bag to find a small revolver in its holster and ammunition, authorities said.
Schultz allegedly told the agents she shared the bag with her husband and they had just returned from a trip to Michigan. She said her husband accidentally left the gun in the bag, prosecutors said.
Schultz is charged with a Class 4 felony count of trying to board an aircraft with weapon and one misdemeanor count of firearm without a valid FOID.
She was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bail on Saturday.
