About 20 juveniles and four adults were arrested after police responded to reports of people being pushed in the Gold Coast Saturday.
The disturbances occurred at 5:40 p.m. at West Chicago Avenue and North State Street,
Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said a group of youths was “observed by our officers runing in and out of crowds bumping into people and pushing folks.”
McCarthy said officers on the scene acted quickly to prevent the incident from escalating.
“We saw it, we prevented it from becoming something bigger and that should be reported as a win,” McCarthy said.
“This is the low-level enforcement that we do that prevent the higher-scale robberies and beatings that actually could occur.”
McCarthy said that the arrested juveniles “have an absolute right to go to Michigan Avenue just like anyone else, but they don’t have a right to engage in the conducts they did.”
