A semi truck struck and killed a North Side man walking near his car that was stopped on the shoulder of the Dan Ryan Expressway Tuesday morning, Illinois State Police said.
Gabriel O. Ohikuare, 40, had stopped his white 2000 Ford Crown Victoria in the northbound right shoulder of the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94) near 83rd Street when he got out for an unknown reason, State Police said in a release.
About 9:40 a.m., a 42-year-old Cicero man driving a 1999 Volvo truck tractor semi-trailer in the right lane fatally struck Ohikuare, the release said. Ohikuare, of the 5400 block of North Kenmore Avenue, was dead at the scene.
The truck driver was not hurt and no charges have been filed as of Tuesday night, the release said.
The three right northbound lanes and the 83rd Street entrance ramp to the Dan Ryan Expressway were temporarily closed as authorities investigated, but were reopened about 2 p.m.
