Major delays on CTA’s Red, Brown lines as fire engulfs Lincoln Park store

Firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze that engulfed a Lincoln Park furniture warehouse and shutdown CTA trains during the heart of Tuesday evening’s rush hour on the North Side.
The fire started about 3:45 p.m. at Roy’s Furniture at 2455 N. Sheffield, the Chicago Fire Department said.
Flames had engulfed the building and caused severe smoke and fire damage, officials said.
Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said the blaze in the two-story was elevated to a three-alarm fire because of the danger the building could collapse, as well as the high heat and high winds, which are hampering firefighting efforts.
As of 6:30 p.m., the fire was under control, although the building was still smoldering, officials said.
As of 8 p.m., mostly normal serviced returned to the Brown, Purple and Red lines after several trains were halted for several hours. But some lines were still running behind schedule.
Additionally, Brown Line trains headed into the Loop are still bypassing the Wellington and Diversey stations.
