Police are looking for two men who attempted to rob a CTA rider at a Red Line stop and then injured four Guardian Angels who tried to intervene.

The incident happened about 11:13 p.m. on the platform of the Clark and Division Red Line stop, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

A man dressed all in black and armed with a handgun hit a 27-year-old man several times with the gun and grabbed his iPhone 4S, Mirabelli said. Four Guardian Angels who were about to board a northbound train saw the robbery and tried to stop it.

At that point the robber’s accomplice, another man dressed all in black, pulled out a knife and began stabbing the Guardian Angels. The robbers then fled in a cab and responding officers found the Guardian Angels bleeding on the platform.

The Angels -- ages 20, 21, 22 and 40 -- were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.

The robbery victim was taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, also in good condition.

Mirabelli said the two robbers bailed from the cab without paying near Oak and Orleans streets. Officers canvassed the area after the cab driver called police, but did not find the robbers.

The two robbers were still at large as of Wednesday morning, and unconfirmed dispatch reports indicate they may have boarded a westbound Blue Line train after fleeing the cab.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
