Shanpreta Howard and Antowain Johnson say they will “travel to the end of the world” for their kids.
But the Uptown couple are in trouble now because they allegedly don’t always like to travel with their kids.
Howard, 34, and Johnson, 36, who live in an apartment building on North Winthrop, were each charged this week with misdemeanor endangerment, after allegedly leaving their children — ages 12 and 9 — alone for two days while they took off for Las Vegas.
While the parents were away — beginning Feb. 22 — the 12-year-old boy told his teacher about the Las Vegas trip. The teacher then contacted police, who went to the apartment and found the children.
An aunt then took custody of the children until the parents returned, police said.
In mid-February postings on her Facebook page, Howard talks about looking forward to the Las Vegas trip: “I am really excited about this trip. ... ready to go n enjoy myself ....” and “Getting the last of my errands for Vegas 2morrow:) <at Fashion Nails Salon.”
The couple also talked about their love for their kids.
In a March 16 posting on Johnson’s Facebook page: “It’s official. I’m getting old. I now have a teenager. Happy 13th birthday, my son .... mommy and daddy love u.”
Howard and Johnson couldn’t be reached for comment, but a neighbor in the apartment building described them as good parents, and said the kids were never in any danger.
“They are big enough kids to take care of themselves,” said the neighbor, Erica Wilson, 38. “The security is good here. They look after us.”
